he Socceroos and Matildas' new Olympic playing kit has been unveiled and it is striking. Striking in that the incredibly snug uniforms look remarkably like onesies... or Golden Globes...
The fashion verdict on social media is not favourable. The slim-fit Nike uniform consisting of a gold top, slightly mismatched yellow shorts and green socks makes the players look like everything from "upside-down pineapples" to "garden gnomes".
We're inclined to agree. But, then green and gold are a notoriously challenging combination of colours.
Of the Socceroos new kit, Fairfax fashion writer, Elizabeth Clarke says:
"Yellow, particularly of the golden variety, is always tricky to pull off; especially fashioned in a synthetic and worn uninterrupted neck-to-knee. Throw in knee-high green socks and football boots in an array of, ahem, interesting hues, and you have a very questionable team look."
